The leadership of Ohanaeze Youth wing[worldwide] has said that it is in total support of the decisions reached by the parent body led by Chief Nnia Nwodo, as regards to the endorsement of Atiku/Obi presidential ticket under the platform of PDP as the best for Ndigbo and other ethnic nationalities that makes up Nigeria.
The Youth wing led by Dr Arthur Obiora lampooned the call for Ndigbo to boycott the 2019 General elections propelled by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu led MASSOB, stating they would resist any attempt by any person(s) or group to frustrate the massive participation of Ndigbo in the coming elections.
The Ohanaeze Youth wing condemned the repeat of operation python dance across states of the South East zone,however blamed the unguided utterances of the IPOB members to have informed the reason of the military.
‘While we would not subscribe to any form of carnage by the military in our land in the name of suppressing unarmed pro-Biafra agitators; our considered opinion is that the IPOB members by their utterances and open ‘threats’ are giving the military justifiable reason to flood Igbo land with soldiers’.
‘We appeal to any persons who have access to their leadership to let them know that they are missing it. The truth is that referendum is not solution to the problems bedeviling us as a race in Nigeria; rather, it would compound our woes as marginalised people in the Nigerian system’.
A press statement signed by Dr Arthur Obiora, a copy of which was made available to ‘THE AUTHORITY states,’
‘This election is critical to the future of Ndigbo as a people; hence we urge our youths; irrespective of party affiliations to take active part and also support the Atiku/Obi candidature as already adopted by the National Executive’
That, we categorically align with the position of the Chief Nnia Nwodo-led executive of Ohanaeze Ndigbo regarding the endorsement of the Presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-Atiku Abubakar/Peter Obi’.
That, we acknowledge the pledge of the Atiku/Obi Presidency to restructure Nigeria; and unequivocally declare that RESTRUCTURING is the answer to the nation’s backwardness’.
The Dr Arthur Obiora led Youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo enjoined all Ohanaeze youth leaders in the various local governments to mobilise all Igbo Youths in voting for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in the presidential election.
Finally,Ohanaeze Youth wing also pleaded with INEC, security agencies and any other bodies involved in the electoral process to ensure the elections were free and fair, especially in the South East zone, where it reliably gathered there are contending interests which may turn the zone into a battle ground.
