Presidential polls: Atiku woos APC stalwarts

In his last minutes move to ensure his victory at Saturday’s presidential election the camp of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar is said to have continued to mount pressure on some APC chieftains to join identify with his ambition

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who disclosed this to newsmen said the representatives of the PDP candidate has met secretly with some APC leaders ahead of the February 16, polls

The APC chieftain, who could not mention the names of the party’s leaders involved in the meeting, expressed fears that some APC leaders may sabotage the re election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari

As confessed by one of the APC chieftains, “Atiku has the momentum now and the wise thing to do politically is to consider options after all in politics there is no permanent friend or permanent enemy.”

The source also disclosed that the said meeting involved some  elements from Tinubu’s camp, adding that they are reaching out to Atiku

“In the last few weeks, the PDP presidential candidate has continued to surge far ahead the incumbent president in both internal and foreign polls.

“This obviously may have set panic measures in the camp of the ruling party and like most Nigerian politicians, self interest and preservation come first before any talk of party loyalty or interests, “the APC chieftain noted.

When contacted to confirm or deny the allegation, Mr Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to Atiku Abubakar declined to comment.
