The UN Secretary General, Mr Antonio Guterres, on Monday, urged more women and girls to study sciences as the world commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
The UN fixed Feb. 11 as International Day of Women and Girls in Science to drum up support for more women and girls to study science subjects and to boost development in the sector.
The UN chief said in an interview published on the UN Women News portal to commemorate the day that this year’s celebration, the fourth, has “Investment in Women and Girls in Science for Inclusive Green Growth” as its theme.
According to him, science and gender equality are vital for the achievement of internationally-agreed development goals, which include
the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
He said that “the participation of women and girls in science is vital to achieving the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
“The world cannot afford to miss out on the contributions of half of our population.” (NAN)
