Adazi – Ani group embarks on sensitization campaign against Vote Buying, Thuggery

CYNTHIA CHIDINMA IGBOKKWE writes that the Adazi-Ani Development Advocate , a non-governmental organization has embarked on sensitization campaign against vote buying and thuggery during Saturday’s presidential elections.

The group embarked on a street walk throughout the community as it kick started from the Ama uku Adazi, through Community High School, down to Eke Adazi Market, and terminated at the Ojiako Memorial Grammar School Adazi-Ani.

The group sensitized the community youths, Women groups, community leaders on the dangers of vote buying and selling.

The Non-governmental organization, “Adazi-Ani Development advocate” performed the walk in collaboration with the Managing Director of Rise Hospital Adazi, Dr Emeka Okeke.

They carried placards with various inscriptions like, ”your vote is your right”, ”No vote buying”, ”No To political thuggery”, ”No to negligence of the voice of the masses”, among others.

The organiser of the programme, Mr. Augustine Okoye, said that the aim is to pass a message across to politicians that gone are the era of exchanging bags of rice and monetary tokens for people’s vote which have crippled the development in the area.
He expressed displeasure over the trend of vote buying which according to him, will leave the masses with sufferings for another four years of political dispensation.

In their various remarks at the different areas in the community, the Principal of Community High School Adazi-Ani, Lady Edith Muojeke, the Chairperson of Eke market Adazi-Ani, Mrs Alice Muojekwu and the Principal Ojiako Memorial Grammar School Adazi-Ani Mrs Joy Izuka represented by Acting Vice Principal Administration, Mrs Rose Mbano, recounted the various promises made by politicians in the past which currently have left their various institutions and markets in very deplorable conditions.

They appreciated the youths for the courageous step taken, and assured them that they would relay their message to the students and market women.

They said that the move will entrench sustainable development as the ugly trend of gift items during campaigns has become a constant feature every four years of their lives, adding that it has been denying them of developmental projects in their locality.

In a stopover at Rise hospital Adazi Dr Emeka Okeke, the MD commended the efforts of the initiators of the move and encouraged the people to vote the candidate of their choice in accordance with their conscience insisting that they must not allow buying.

The spokesperson of the physical challenged persons in Anaocha Local government Area, Gabriel Ilomuanya appealed to the state government to build a rehabilitation home for them in Anaocha as that will reduce the number of beggars in the streets.

Engr John Eyisi, President General of the community and Anaocha constituency 1 State house of Assembly aspirant under the platform of APC went on to assure the people of Anaocha that a vote for him is a vote for Credibility, trustworthy, dependability ,transparency and quality representation; while Dr. Dubem Onyejiaka expressed delight with the initiative by the youths.
