Jennifer Douglas Abubakar: Recognising electorates with unbroken spirit as true winners of democracy

March 4th, 2019

For (Dr) Mrs Jennifer_Douglas Abubakar, wife of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, winning is a state of the mind that embraces the positive things one does. It is the science of being totally prepared and poised in the face of adversity with an unbroken spirit. For her, the ‘sham’ presidential ‘body bag’ election conducted recently in Nigeria by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has revealed the true diagnosis of the real corruption that has damped the soul of the nation. For her, the true winners are patriotic Nigerians who voted for a greater tomorrow, which though seemed truncated and debased at the moment but have left an indellible mark in the sand of history writes ANGELEEN NKWOCHA.

Jennifer Abubakar has applauded electorates for coming out en mass to vote for the vision they believed in and their dogged stand and support for the truth even when it is made to look unpopular.

For her, success doesn’t count unless one earns it fair and square with integrity. She believes that everyman has a conscience and even if it is subdued posterity will always judge, for it takes courage and good people to create a meaningful life of integrity.

For her the greatest asset of any nation is not the material resources that lies underneath her grounds but the patriotism that lies in the heart of her people.

Many has described the presidential election held on Saturday the 23rd of February, 2019 as one that recorded an unfortunate brutalization of the nation’s fragile democracy by the desperate antics of politicians. Stressing that It was marred by violence that led to the the death of dozens of Nigerians, a clear case of a candidate ‘winning’ and a nation ‘losing’.

Ballot boxes were snatched at will, millions of Nigerians disenfranchised, result falsification and brazen distortion of election figures across the country orchestrated the vicious attack on the nation’s fragile democracy thus deflating the people’s confidence in the electoral process.

Speaking on behalf of Nigerians in Diaspora Chamber for Good Governance Barr. Agu Obasi, described the exercise as an atrocious rape of our democracy adding that it does not reflect the peoples will.

“We are convinced that the product of this exercise does not reflect the democratic will of our people. We call upon INEC to cancel the election and commence the process of conducting a transparent election. We call upon all lovers of democracy in our nation to be united in their condemnation of this atrocious rape of our democracy.

“We call on the International community to disassociate themselves and their states from the travesty of justice that took place on February 23 2019. We maintain that while a candidate was declared a winner, our nation collectively lost”, he lamented.

He averred that the true loser is integrity and respect and called on the PDP’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to reject the fake results, and seek redress in the court of law as according to him no credit should be given to falsehood.

Obasi said that the nation needs urgent restructuring, while INEC needs an overhaul adding that the chairman should be elected by members of the state assemblies.

In the same vein former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has rubbished the claims by Buhari that his victory at the polls was “a victory for all Nigerians.”

Condemning Buhari’s claim, the former presidential aide wondered why Nigerians were allegedly in a mourning mood, following the declaration of Buhari as President.

He averred that while Atiku had gained more votes, winning the incumbent President with wide margins in States in the South East and South-South amidst intimidation, Buhari gathered ‘imaginary’ insurmountable strength in the North.

Atiku Abubakar, on his part has rejected the outcome of the February 23 presidential election. He said the election was not free nor fair and that it was full of many irregularities, stressing that he would challenge the outcome of the Presidential elections in court.

Atiku, in a statement he personally signed early Wednesday morning, said if he had lost in a free and fair election, he would have called the winner, President Muhammadu Buhari within seconds of his being aware of the outcome of the exercise.

On her part, his hardworking, supportive, energetic and resiliant wife, who played a vital role in canvassing for votes for him during the period of campaigns in the South South and South East Geo-political zones of the country, Jennifer Abubakar, alongside well meaning and credible Nigerians have thrown their weight on the part of truth.

For her the truth is like a lion, you don’t have to defend it, just let it loose, it will defend itself and Alh. Atiku Abubakar is on the verge of letting the “lion” loose in the court of law to salvage the soul of Nigeria.

For Jennifer Abubakar, the true winners are Nigerians who came out en mass amidst all forms of intimidation to vote for a working Nigeria, indeed they have written their names in the sand of history and posterity will judge them kindly, this to her is what winning is essentially all about.
