Anxiety is heightening across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over the inconclusive elections declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission in three area councils that were affected.
Citing violence at the recent chairmanship and councillorship elections in Kuje, Kwali and Bwari councils, the Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the elections in those areas inconclusive.
The declaration has since been generating tension among the supporters of the main leading political parties involved.
At Bwari council, a youth activist Yunusa Yusuf has said there was no going back on the people’s plan to vote out the incumbent chairman, which he attributed the action to the chairman’s underperformance within the last three and half years.
He urged the FCT minister to take urgent steps before things get worst in the territory, alleging that deseparate politicians were instigating trouble through their recent outings.
Hon. Yusuf Dabo, spokesperson for the Kuje PDP chairmanship candidate, Hon.Abdulahi Sabo, disclosed this to newsmen in Kuje on Tuesday.
It could be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Saturday March 9, declared the Kuje Chairmanship elections inconclusive due to electoral violence at some poling units in Rubochi.
The spokesperson said that APC had been engaged in voters’ inducement and vote buying during the last election, noting that investigation by PDP revealed that the APC have plans to use thugs to disrupt the re-run elections.
Dabo said the party would ensure strict resistance to the APC and its candidate, to steal the peoples’ mandate, saying that it would also ensure every vote is counted during the re-run election.
He noted that winning election should not be seen as do or die affair but the situation was different in the case of APC as they want to come to power at all cost at the detriment of the people’s choice.
“Every area council where PDP is leading in FCT, INEC have declared Inconclusive elections in such places, this cannot be coincidence but calculated vendetta.
“PDP won in eight electoral wards out of ten; we don’t know which magic they are going to use to win elections in the two remaining wards.
“Our supporters have been advised to be calm and law abiding as victory shall be ours particularly in Rubochi where we beat APC in the last presidential and Senate Elections,” he said.
