FG, JHELP Concepts to launch Cancer campaign in universities

In other to curtail the case of cancer disease in the country, the Federal Government and JHELP Concepts is set to launch an exhaustive campaign against cancer disease in the Nigerian Universities.

This was disclosed in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, yesterday, by the director of JHELP Concepts Amb. Raymond Jefferson Onyebuch, the organizers of the Nigerian University Carnival.

According to the statement: “Cancer is among the group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss and a change in bowel movements.

“While these symptoms may indicate cancer, they may have other causes. There are over 100 types of cancers which affect humans.”

He further disclosed that: “On the average, every 2 minutes, 54 persons (Men/Women) are diagnosed with Cancer around the world and 9 persons die of Cancer every 15 minutes. Unknown to many, Cancer is one the deadliest disease in the World. In 2015, about 90.5 million people had cancer. About 14.1 million new cases occur a year and it has caused about 8.8 million deaths Worldwide.

“There are risk factors associated with the Cancer disease but the major problem is that a large number of people still have little or no knowledge about these factors.”
