Sokoto re – run: 74, 403 voters to decide Tambuwal, Aliyu Sokoto’s fate

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) gets set to conduct the governorship supplementary election in Sokoto State, the fate of the two contending candidates, incumbent Governor Waziri Tambuwal of the PDP and Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto of the APC, hangs in the hands of about 74, 403 voters.

Declaring the The March 9th Governorship and State Assembly election in Sikoto state inconclusive, the state INEC collation/Returning Officer, Professor Fatima Batul Mukhtar of Jigawa state Federal University Dutse, noted that results of 136 poling units across 22 Local Government Areas in the state were cancelled as a result of violence and over voting.

The 136 poling units cancelled have a total of 75,403 votes, which would be contested during the next Saturday’s rerun election.

According to results so far declared, the incumbent Governor Aminu Waziri Tambawal was leading his rival, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, of the APC, who was his former deputy with 3413 votes. Governor Tambawal scored 489,558 votes against 486,145 of Ahmed Aliyu.

In another show of strength the between the two major political parties in the state  the

PDP in sokoto has in its net, the incumbent Governor Aminu Waziri Tambawal, former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa, former deputy Governor Mukhtari Shehu Shagari, former deputy Governor Ahmed Muhammad Gusau, former senator Ila Gada, Ambassador Ladan Shuni and host of former commissioners.

The APC in its camp has former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and a numbers of civil servants who joined the party in solidarity with Wamakko, who ruled the state for 8 years.
