From Austine Tule, Makurdi
Stakeholders in Benue State have continued to react to the victory of Governor Samuel Ortom who got re-elected for a second term of office last Saturday.
Ortom was re-elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking exclusively with The AUTHORITY in Makurdi on Monday, House of Representatives member- elect for Katsina-Ala/ Ukum, Logo Federal Constituency, Dr. Richard Gbande said the victory signified a triumph of the Benue people over external oppression.
He pointed out that the victory reflected the collective will of the people to take their destiny in their hands stressing that the outcome of the election showed the resolve by the people not to too succumb to external infiltration into their affairs.
He expressed confidence that with the PDP now fully in charge in the state, efforts will be made towards creating a synergy that will enhance a smooth working relationship with all elected representatives at all levels with a view to attracting development to the state.
Chief Tahav Agerzua, Special Adviser to Gov Ortom on Media and ICT, posited that the victory was divine, and sued for support from those who may have also wished to be elected into the office at the time, adding that the seat was meant for only one person at a time.
Chief Agerzua expressed hope that with his Re-election, the governor was going to settle down to the task of governance believing that more was going to be achieved in his second term of office.
The seasoned media consultant while congratulating his boss on his victory at the polls prayed God to continue to be with him and assured him of his continued loyalty to his administration.
Also a former National Auditor of the Nigerian Civil Service Union, Comrade Kwamande Kwamande in a chat with our correspondent in his Makurdi Office described the victory as one of the best things that have happened to the people of the State.
He expressed joy that given the negative posturing of the APC led government over killings that took place in the state in the last three years, it was a thing of joy for the people to have rewarded governor Ortom whom he noted laid his life on the line for them when it mattered most.
“The people have spoken very loud and clear, we have never had any tangible thing from the APC government at the centre and so we have now taken the part of self -determination.
“Since the federal government has completely neglected us even when we were been sacked from our homes, killed and chased out of our settlements, we reasoned that we no longer had any justification supporting the APC and that is why we decided to jettison it and am very happy that our message has been heard by the whole world,” Kwamande submitted.
Also Ambassador Philip Wuhe said it was Victory well deserved and called on the governor to carefully select those that will help him in the task of governance during the second tenure.
