President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday night hosted to a dinner for Senator-elect, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah, other Senators-elect and returning Senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Aso Rock Villa.
The dinner comes ahead of the inauguration of the ninth National Assembly in June, and is believed to be part of efforts to ensure smoother relationship with the incoming National Assembly.
Also in attendance were the national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, and APC Governors Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state; Yahaya Bello of Kogi State; Simon Lalong of Plateau state; Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state and Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state.
Others were Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa, Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe State; Kashim Shettima of Borno State; and Gboyega Oyetala of Osun State; as well as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; former Governors of Abia State, Orji Uzor-Kalu; Abdulahi Adamu from Nasarawa State and APC National Working Committee members.
In his remarks before journalists were excused from the event, Oshiomhole announced that Ubah, who won the Anambra South senatorial seat in the recent national assembly polls on the platform of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), has defected to the APC but that the necessary formalities will be finalised later.
Oshiomhole stressed that Ubah was more comfortable with APC, being the winner and that he was very much welcome while issues pertaining to the defection will be perfected later.
Ubah was the only non-APC Senators-elect at the dinner, which held at the Banquet Hall of the Aso Rock Villa.
The APC chairman added that APC stood a good chance of being in firm control of the ninth Senate with 223 APC Senators gotten out of 360.
