2019 anti-Corruption Marathon race gets Dec. 9 date

Organisers of the 2019 anti-corruption marathon race have fixed December 9 as date for the brace which has received the blessings of several federal government agencies, including the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and other related anti corruption agencies

The organizers said at a press conference in Abuja that it has commenced preparations for a hitch free sporting event scheduled for December 9 in Abuja.

Already, many Stakeholders intruding federal and state departments and agencies have thrown their weight behind the staging of this year’s edition of the annual National Anti-Corruption Marathon.

Speaking at the flag off of the registration process of the second edition, which is scheduled to hold in Abuja on December 9, 2019, Okechi Udofia, who represented the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), who pledged his agency’s continued support of the marathon, urged organisers and participants to use passion, zeal, strategy, focus and determination being attributes of marathoners to fight and eliminate corruption in the country.

Earlier, the National Coordinator of the marathon, Mr. Jacob Onu, said, “The intention of this early flag off is to refocus and redirect the energy of our youth towards preparing for this marathon as participants or volunteers, instead of engaging in vices that could be hazardous to their health and society in general.”

Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who was represented by Nwoke Lazarus, in his endorsement of the race, urged Nigerians to team up with the Federal Government to eliminate corruption that has become a global menace through sports.

He noted that the choice of marathon to fight the cankerworm was a collective resolve that sports remain the most viable way to diminish corruption in the society.

Minister of Youth and Sports Development Barr Solomon Dalung represented by an Assistant Director, Bamiduro Olamide, assured that the ministry would support the event, describing it as been in line with the vision of the federal government to nip corruption in the bud through the Nigeria youths.
