MAURICE OKAFOR writes that Sunday, May 5, 2019 will remain memorable in the hearts of all Anglican clerics and worshippers under the Anglican Diocese of Nike in Enugu state as it was the enthronement service of the second Bishop of the diocese, Rt Rev Christian Onyeka Onyia.
The service took place at St Cyprian’s Cathedral Church, Abakpa Nike, Enugu in beautiful colours even as addition a billionaire business mogul and Managing Director of Oranto Oil Ltd , Prince Engr Arthur Eze’ used the opportunity to showcase his passion of service to God’ and humanity , as he doled at a total of fifty Million naira N50M in support of the envisaged projects of the newly enthroned Bishop of the diocese, Rt Rev Christian Onyeka Onyia.
Prince Eze said the money may go into equipping of the Cathedral with air conditioners and welfare package to the women and members of the Church choir who featured in the Sunday worship.
He explicitly said he is donating the sum of twenty million naira for the equipping of the cathedral with air conditioners while another ten million naira to be shared among all the women and church choir who participated in yesterday’s church worship and activities.
He announced another twenty million naira donation to support the newly enthroned Bishop Onyia in his envisaged projects for the diocese. Prince Arthur Eze further promised to send a 200 KVA Generator that will help to power the air conditioners at St Cyprian’s Cathedral, when they are mounted.
Prince Arthur Eze who was among the special guests invited to the special Church service marking the enthronement of Rt Rev Onyia as the second Bishop of Nike Diocese [Anglican Communion].
Earlier while expressing gratitude to both the clergy and members of the church for their various support to his enthronement, Rev Onyia promised he will extend evangelism and socio infrastructural development of Nike diocese to the rural Churches across the entire Nike diocese, since his predecessor, Rt Rev Professor Evans Ibeagha and his wife, have done much in establishing the Cathedral and the nearby environments.
He promised to add to the good works of his predecessor, Prof. Ibeagha, by working hard to realise his dream of carving out a new Cathedral from the present Nike diocese in the next decade.
Chief Engr Anayo Onwuegbu, the Managing Director of ANBEEZ services Ltd, who was also present at the enthronement service promised a donation of five million naira in support of Bishop Onyia’s envisaged projects in Nike Diocese. Bishop Onyia had commended him for building a magnificent church for the diocese alone.
The enthronement service of Rt Rev Christian Onyia as the new Bishop of Nike diocese at St Cyprian’s Cathedral, Abakpa Nike was witnessed by a lot of dignitaries including the Secretary to Enugu State Government [SSG] Mr GOC Ajah, who stood in for Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Hon Cornelius Nnaji, House of Rep member elect, Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency, the Enugu East Local government chairman, Hon Alex Ugwu, Hon Geoffrey Mbah, Enugu state assembly elect for Oji River Constituency, among others.
The Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical province and Bishop of Enugu diocese, Anglican Communion, Most Revd Emmanuel .O Chukwuma led other Bishops from various parts of the country to witness the event.
