Newly appointed Managing Director of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Captain Rabiu Yadudu has assumed duty with a promise to improve service delivery at all the airports
Captain Yadudu who stated this at the handing over ceremony yesterday in Abuja pledged to ensure that he sustains discipline among the staff so that air passengers get the best out of Nigerian airports.
According to him, he came into FAAN two years and few months ago, and he had observed the need for consistent improvement in the industry to avoid retrogression adding that improving personnel saying moving forward means an improved personnel
He said that in the next few month they would concentrate on improving their services, calling on FAAN staff to improve themselves through sustaining high level of discipline exhibited
He promised to Maintain communication with the outgoing MD for consultation, recommendation on FAAN issues saying if you want to succeed, it is important to have regular advise from such wealth of experience.
The outgoing DG Sale Dunoma in his remarks .mentioned that FAAN is a complex organization saying a N organization that serve the elite, they were always ensuring that FAAN does not lower standard as they always make comparison with other airport in developed countries, saying it is very difficult to measure up.
He said “Management of FAAN is very complex because you don’t have the same resources and Infrastructure with the location that is being compared , also your staffs don’t have the same training and exposure like other countries”.
Dunoma also pointed out that the industry is very dynamic as there always changes in technology adding while waiting for approval of additional infrastructure and by the time it goes through all procurement process there could have been changes in the the technology and there would be need to update it.
He further pointed out that another complexities are the airlines and the requirements that need to be satisfied, saying despite having all the necessary infrastructures, they are still faced with the challenges of meeting up with the demands of airlines.
He revealed that there are plans to increase the revenue collection at the airport for them to be able to pay their loans and unless the airline agree there is no way they can increase the airport charges. He urged the incoming MD to ensure he has good working relationship with the airlines so as to be able to achieve their goals.
Dunoma further charged the new MD to ensure that he understands government policies before implementing urging him to seek clarifications from among the leadership when not clear on certain areas.
