MAURICE OKAFOR writes that the enabling political peaceful environment which has enhanced the democratic process to thrive in Enugu state under the present administration of Governor Ugwuanyi wouldn’t have been possible without the harmonious cordial relationship between the executive and the other alms of government, most especially the legislature under the able leadership of the Speaker, Hon Edward Uchenna Ubosi, representing Enugu East Urban Constituency, with maximum support of his Deputy, Hon Dons Uzogbado, representing Oji River Constituency.
But Hon Edward Ubosi who was re -elected for the third term to represent his constituency, Enugu East Urban, has expressed regret over the non-returning of the Deputy Speaker, Hon Dons Uzogbado, representing Oji River constituency, to continue to deputize for him, stating that both of them have combined smoothly in achieving all the success made during the 6th Enugu state House of Assembly, which at the long run reflected in stabilizing the democratic process in the state.
Hon Ubosi dropped this hints on Saturday,May 25, at a ceremony organised by a political pressure group known as ‘Oji River People’s Parliament [ORPP] to honour Hon Dons Uzogbado, the Deputy Speaker, Enugu state house of assembly, for his effective representation of Oji River constituency in the state house of assembly, in the past eight years.
He extolled the sterling leadership qualities in Hon Dons Uzogbado and his absolute loyalty to constituted authorities and the rule of law, expressing hope that such qualities will fetch him some other positions of leadership in some other quarters.
Earlier in his address, the chairman of the event, Sculptor Dr Okey Ikelegbu, said they deemed Hon Uzogbado fit for a meritorious service award based on the giant developmental strides he attracted to his constituency and his enormous contribution in the state house of assembly, which culminated in the good governance being enthroned in Enugu state by the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
In a lecture titled ‘The Developmental potentials of Oji River’, delivered by Dr Chike Madueke, as part of agenda of the event, he advocated for a blue print of development of the various potentials abundant in Oji River that can be developed under private sector initiative to enhance development in the area and create job for teeming population of the citizens, outside government efforts.
However, he cautioned that the people must elect parliamentarians who must have been thoroughly equipped with the blue print of socio economic potentials of Oji River, as such to be a good mouthpiece of the constituency before the government.
Governor Ugwuanyi who was the special guest of honour of the ceremony was represented by his chief of staff, Dr Festus Uzor. The Deputy senate President, Senator Iike Ekweremadu was represented by Chief Alex Ogbonnia, who is the current President of Ohanaeze Nidigbo, Enugu state chapter, while Dr Godwin Udeuhele, a former commissioner for information in Enugu state, stood in for Hon Toby Okechukwu, representing Awgu/Aninri/Oji River Federal Constituency in the National assembly.
Other eminent dignitaries who graced the occasion were Rev. Senator Dr Hyde Onuaguluchi, the chairman of Oji River local government, Hon Harrison Okeke, the Enugu PDP State Secretary, Hon Kwashi Akalusi, former Managing Director, Enugu state waste management agency[ESWAMA], Mr Greg Anyaegbudike, among others.
