The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru says crude oil and condensate productions have risen to 2.3 million daily.

Baru who disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday when he met with a delegation from the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by its National President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, said the corporation was working to boost the nation’s hydrocarbon reserves.

He explained that the corporation was also pushing to have more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into its businesses, adding that some of its top officials were in London looking to conclude about $7 billion deals.

Baru stressed that the vision of the current management of the national oil company is to become a global energy company whose business goes beyond oil and gas production.

He said: “Since we came in July 2016, we have focused on increasing oil and gas and condensates. At some point our national combined production was about a million barrels (daily). I am happy that the end of 2018 we had moved on, averaging last year, to about 2.1 million barrels.

“As I am speaking, this morning, I looked at our production figures, combined oil and condensate, we are approaching 2.32 million barrels a day. I think this stability and ability to push production has come as a consequence of several factors. Our relationships internally, externally and of course the support of the media”.

He explained further that in the gas sector the corporation has pushed from low production level of 450mscf per day to about 1,500mscf per day for domestic market alone.

Earlier, NUJ President, Isiguzo urged oil industry operators to be sensitive to the needs of host communities as part of effort to promote harmonious relationship between the companies and their hosts.

Isiguzo also appealed to host communities to support companies operating in their areas by protecting oil and gas installations.

He praised Baru for his support for the Nigerian media, stressing the importance of a free press in modern society.

Mr. Isiguzo was accompanied on the visit by top officials of the union including the National Secretary, Liman and the Chairman of FCT NUJ Council, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche.
