OJO ISAAC writes that the Nnewi Non Indigenes Welfare Association, Women Wing last week visited the paramount traditional ruler of the industrial town, Igwe KON Orizu 111.
The group under the leadership of Lady Margaret Chukwuneke said their stay in Nnewi has been very rewarding.
Lady Chukwuneke noted that the non-indigenes have been doing a whole lot of positive things in the town unnoticed but stressed the need for a more collaborative relationship with the host community.
The leader of the visiting group said that she and her members would appreciate it if they are remembered for political and other responsibilities whenever there is opportunity for such.
Lady Chukwuneke pointed out that her members are law abiding individuals who have contributed their own quota to the growth and development of Nnewi through their chosen endeavours.
She however paid a glowing tribute to the founder/organiser of the group, Chief Akubudike D. I Ojinnaka for his efforts at bringing the non-indigenes under one productive umbrella even as she urged other non-indigenes in the industrial town to without delay come out of their shells and identify with the forward looking group for their own good.
The founder, Chief Ojinnnaka in his remarks noted that the non-indigenes need to organise themselves and identify properly with the authorities.
He emphatically stated that the non-indigenes in Nnewi have benefitted tremendously from their host community but added that the group would like to have a visible presence in the town with its attendant responsibilities and privileges.
“We, the non-indigenes are ready to partner with the good people of Nnewi in every ramifications, non-indigenes are represented in almost every productive sector of the community and they are doing very well but a better and harmonious relationship with the host community would be appreciated, ” he said.
The Paramount Traditional Ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Dr KON Orizu 111 earlier in his welcome remarks said his town is a land of gold where every one is sure of making it.
Igwe Nnewi said the peace, stability and equilibrium the town is known for is responsible for the progress of businesses done in the town unlike many other towns which are always in one crisis or the other.
“It is doubtful if anybody can do business in an environment devoid of peace, the presence of peace is what stands Nnewi out as a place to do business and prosper whether indigenes or non-indigenes, “he noted.
“Many people who came to Nnewi as spinsters and bachelors have made it in their different chosen endeavors and after getting married are blessed with children, Nnewi is particularly reputed for her productivity and that is why Nnewi is Anaedo, land of gold, ” he stressed.
Igwe KON Orizu 111 who urged the non-indigenes to fully integrate themselves into the town however urged them to continue to be law abiding.
Mrs Ebele Johnson PG Nnewichi, Mrs Amaka Williams PG Otolo and Mrs Onyeka Chinaza PG Umudim and other dignitaries were in the team that visited Igwe Nnewi, Dr KON Orizu 111 and the Obis of Uruagu-Nnewi, Umudim-Nnewi and Nnewichi as well as Nzuko-Ora Nnewi the umbrella body for all Nnewi people home and abroad.
