CAN pledges support for SU

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN),Niger state Chapter has pledged it’s support to Scripture Union Nigeria to strength Christian faith in the state.

The Chairman, Niger State Chapter of CAN, Rev. Dr. Matthias Echioda disclosed this weekend during the Re-Union Fellowship with the churches by the Scripture Union of Nigeria in Minna.

Echioda said,” with the efforts made so far by SU, in bringing the churches together, CAN is ready to offer support it can by the grace of God, with the whole of our heart to support the SU, to further strengthen the churches in Minna The more. Adding that, “the churches need unity now more than ever before”.

In his opening remarks, the HOD Mission’s of Scripture Union, pastor Kingsley Edozie who gave brief history of of SU, in Nigeria said that, SU is not another church, but rather it is an international inter-denominational and non-denominational that started in Britain in 1867 and came to Nigeria in 1885.

Edozie said, “we want to set up a Mega fellowship center or what we called in our language a pilgrims group that will be trained to visit children and young people in their school and neighborhood, that will organise children and young people camps and rallies and also organise BRP and outreaches in the hinter land areas to reach and raised indigenous disciples .

He said, “as SU, we don’t conduct baptised, burial, given any communion or wedded any body. We are into Bible reading promotion, camps and conference, so that children, young people and family could be properly nurtured and disciples so that they can become men and women of influence in the church and the society.

In his re-union message, Venerable Godwin Mgbemena said that, the re-union is very necessary as disunity has entered into the body of Christ which is the church.

He also said that, “when people are United they can do more things, adding that, the lack of unity has divided the church, which is supposed to be encouraging oneness as these are while God no longer answering our prayers.

“as God doesn’t answer the prayers of people with double mind. He therefore for the power of oneness, as God will always be in a place of oneness.

He therefore noted that, “the disunity has the resulted to the infighting with one another, powerlessness, prayerlessness and unanswered prayers of the church nowadays as “carnality”.

Highlight of the event was the reactivation of SU Minna pilgrims group.
