In line with his policy on continuity, Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has paid N2 billion to El-Razi University of Sudan to offset part of the foreign students’ scholarship debt inherited from the immediate-past administration of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankawaso.
Ganduje made this known through his Deputy, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, while receiving the Chairman Board of Trustees, El- Razi University, Sudan, Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour who led some of the Board Members to a courtesy call in his office.
According to him, “this Government has inherited Students from the previous administration with a lot of money to be paid and through good mediation between the University and Kano State Government, we were able to settled this amount so that our Students complete their studies.”
He disclosed that his administration had paid almost 80% of all the fees of other students that are in India, Cairo and Syprus who were also inherited from the previous administration and most of them have now completed their various programmes.
“All fees inherited from the past administration are now gradually being paid by the Ganduje’s administration. Even recently, the state government has equally paid over N300 million to the Syprus University to enable them complete their programmes.
“The habit of some individuals who engage in politicizing the issue of education would not in any way benefit the state and the country in at large.
“What it entails is not the issue of politicizing the aspect of education, whoever has to be critic has to be positive in his criticism for the interest of the good people of Kano state. The resoluteness showed by our adminstration to offset the backlog of debts can only be commendable.”
Ganduje, however, assured the Management of El-Razi University that Kano students will continue to be found worthy both in learning and character.
He also dedicated the proposed Honourary Doctorate degree to be offered to him ny the university to the educational development of Kano state, pointing out that, “the offer is not to be seen for me alone but an honor to the entire people of the state and Nigeria at large.”
Earlier, the Chairman Board of Trustees El-Razi University Professor Ibrahim Ghandour said they were in the Governor office to express their appreciation over the mutual relationship that exists between the University and the State.
“We are purposely here to present the University request to offer His Excellency a Doctorate Degree. El-Razi University is now 23 years old, graduated batches from Medicine, Pharmacy but this is the best Doctorate Degree offered to any personality either National President or Sudanese personality, ” he explained.
Professor Ibrahim said the programme would be held together with the University graduation ceremony where distinguished people from Nigeria would be graduating on the 26th of August, 2019.
He appreciated and commended the good performance of Kano State Students over the years which according to him, born their desire to offer a Student from Kano called Sadiq free Masters Programme.
