Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari has said on Tuesday that the ongoing onslaught against crime and criminality in the state by the operatives attached to Operation “Puff Adder” has recorded a huge success in the state.
The Commissioner who disclosed this while parading 36 suspects at the Command headquarters in Lokoja for kidnapping, Armed robbery, Culpable homicide, Cultism, threat to life and extortion and being in possession of substance believed to be Indian hemp stressed that more efforts would be intensified to make Kogi a free – crime state.
Among this number in Police custody which includes two women according to the Commissioner are: 16 robbery suspects, 11 suspected kidnappers, while nine suspected cultists, Culpable homicide and those in possession of substance suspected to be Indian hemp and other Heinous crimes respectively.
He pointed out that the comprehensive crime prevention and control strategies through intensive patrol, raids of identified criminal hideouts, black sports and flash points, conduct stop and search across Kogi State led to the arrest of these suspected criminal elements terrorizing the innocent people of the state.
Notable among suspects according to the Commissioner include one Ocheme Kizito who was arrested by the Police in Lokoja for threat to life and extortion from a Labour leader in the state, with a threat that “if he fails to pay the sum of two million naira, his family would be kidnapped”.
C P Busari pointed out that three suspected cultists were also arrested from Anyigba axis, two 400 level students from Kogi State University and one Onoja Hamed Onoja who confessed to be a member of an unlawful society ” Neo Black Movement of Axe man confraternity” who have been terrorizing the people of the area.
He further disclosed that the Operative attached to “Puff Adder” also arrested some cult members accused of frequent robbing students of Kogi State University Anyigba along Dominic Lodge adding that they confessed during interrogation of belonging to an unlawful society called “AYE”.
The Commissioner pointed out that four young men were also arrested in connection with the killing of one Yahaya Jibrin of Abache in Ankpa local government area after robbing him of #1.6 million adding that the deceased’ apprentice who reported the matter to the Police allegedly masterminded the robbery.
C P Busari therefore called for the cooperation of the people of the state to enhance the performance the Command assuring that the Command will put everything in place to ensure safety of lives and property in the state.
