The announcement of re- appointment of Mr Geoffrey Onyeama as minister of foreign affairs by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday has continued to generate positive reactions from all and sundry in Enugu state,some of whom described it as one of the best appointments in President Buhari’s cabinet, based on Onyeama’s pedigree as an already established international diplomat of great repute, and his pedigree to have performed well during the first tenure laundering the nation’s battered image prior to commencement of President Buhari’s administration.
Mr Geoffrey Onyeama was among the 44 nominated ministers to serve in President Buhari’s second tenure cabinet whose portfolio’s were announced yesterday.
THE AUTHORITY checks in Enugu revealed that lots of people especially the political class with interest on who occupies the various positions commended President Buhari on the re- appointment of Geoffrey Onyeama as foreign affairs minister.
Prince Richard Ozobu, an APC caucus in Enugu state and a chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo stated,’ His appointment as foreign affairs minister shows the high mark he received for his performance as foreign minister in President’s first tenure in office’.
‘It means also the high trust in his ability to perfect Nigeria image in the world community. The process he had been ably on. I salute Mr President for the the level of trust on Geoffrey Onyeama’, Ozobu stated.
The pioneer deputy chairman of the All Progressives Congress[APC] in Enugu state, Comrade A.C.Ude, on behalf of ‘KWUSIKE’ political family of Enugu APC, described the re-appointment of Mr Onyeama as foreign affairs minister, as putting ‘a round peg in a round hole’. He said Mr Geoffrey Onyeama is a seasoned technocrat with great wealth of experience as a diplomat in United Nations, who equally have been ‘Tested and Trusted’ based on the way he has repackaged Nigeria’s image in the past fours years.
He extolled President Buhari for giving Mr Onyeama the opportunity to continue from where he stopped in his [President] second tenure. He expressed optimism that Onyeama will perform beyond expectation in what he described as his[Onyeama] ‘second missionary journey’ in projecting Nigeria before the world body.
