Some men of God who operate under the aegis of ‘Enugu State Indigenous Pastors’ has described Nigeria as a country that is under socio economic and political bondage because of the failure of our political leaders ,stating it is only divine intervention through faithful prayers to God Almighty that would salvage the country from total collapse.

The Clerics made the assertion as the reason of their prayer summit with theme,’ Breaking the Siege’ held at Grace of God Cathedral Awkunanaw Enugu recently.

The Team Leader,Bishop Dr Goddy Nnaji mentioned some of the problems hindering economic development of Nigeria at the moment which also fans the embers of disunity to include the encroachment of Fulani herdsmen on farm lands, orchestrated bad leadership by the political class which he said has become a culture and corruption. He tasked the church to be keen in the fight against corruption since most of the perpetrators in the society belong to one worship center or another.

His words,’Our Nation is under siege. We are under the siege of Fulani herdsmen who ravage the farms with their cattle in our rural areas,We are under siege because our political leaders have failed us in the art of governance. We are under siege because corruption has being enthroned as a culture in our society. But I assure you that Nigeria will rise again as we men of God has assembled to ask for God’s intervention. We must have to plan a new way of life by preaching moral rejuvenation in the church. Since it is obvious that most of our political leaders belong to one worship center or another’.

Similarly, Bishop Sylva Edeh, lamented that it only through constant prayers to God Almighty for his divine healing that the rot in the country can be revised.

His words,’Our political class has failed us,the security system in the country is also a failure. There is a general institutional decay and what is obtained are mere recycling of our leaders’.

He expressed optimism that God Almighty will stir a new direction for Nigeria based on their cries at the prayer summit in as much as the church is also working out action plans for active participation of true Christians in political leadership, henceforth.

He stated,’God has not given up on Nigeria. Nigeria will work again. He is bringing people back to basis. During the oil boom of the 1980’s,Our leaders didn’t plan for the future. The church need to start planning for the government to work again’.
