The Amayanabo of Okochiri Kingdom in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers state, king Ateke Michael Tom, has set aside N3 million cash award for winners of his maiden Niger Delta football championship match to be held between November and December this year.
The football match which will take place in Okochiri community, is part of king Ateke’s efforts and contributions to engender peace, unity among the people of Niger Delta region.
Addressing journalists in Okochiri, on the tournament, also titled 5ASIDE, the organising chairman Media committee, Mr Ifeanyi Ogbonna said the championship is being organise to galvanise peace and unity among Niger Delta region states, adding that the tournament is open to all Nigerians to participate.
According to Ogbonna, ‘The championship will have Female and male categories with the Female competition starting 3rd November, while the male counterpart Will commence from 1st December’.
He disclosed that the winners in the male category will go home with N1million, while second and third
place winners will cart away the sum N500, 000 and N250, 000 naira respectively.
‘The first position in the Female category will take home N700, 000, while the second and third winners will smile home with the sum of N500, 000 and N250, 000.
“The motive is to galvanise unity ,peace and togetherness across all part of the country. Every tribe is welcome in this tournament, the games will be 5ASIDE because of the size of the field and there will be MVP and highest goal scorer awards”, he stated.
He Further disclosed that registration for the championship is on going with the sum of N7000 for male football teams, while female teams are to register with the sum of N5000.
He urged interested football clubs to register accordingly as the registration he said will end on the October 27.
