A Nigerian, Dr. Aminu Magashi, has been nominated as the co-convener of the Community of Practitioners in Accountability and Social Action in Health (COPASAH) global symposium.
Dr. Magashi is currently the Coordinator of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), with headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
He will be working side by side with the current Global Convener, Professor Abhjit Das, over the next one year that will witness a successful transition of COPASAH secretariat from India to Africa.
The Global Steering Committee of COPASAH approved the nomination at New Delhi after its symposium, recently. The appointment is with immediate effect.
COPASAH is a global community where practitioners with common interest and passion in monitoring and ensuring accountability in health interact regularly to exchange experiences and lessons.
Practitioners are drawn from over 40 countries.
The practitioners also share resources, capacities and methods in the production and dissemination of conceptual, methodological and practical outputs towards strengthening the field of networking and capacity building among member organizations.
Speaking while accepting the nomination, Dr. Magashi applauded the Global Steering Committee for the confidence repose on him.
In a statement made available to The AUTHORITY, in Abuja, yesterday, Dr. Magashi vowed to do his utmost best “with self-accountability and self-transparency and affirmed to work as a team to take COPASAH to the highest level.”
He reiterated his commitment ”to see the emergence of Regional Symposiums in the 4 regions of COPASAH being organized in 2020 and to also organize the next Global Symposium in Africa hopefully either in 2021 or 2022.”
