Golf: IBB International Golf Club set to hold Independence Tournament 2021

IBB International Golf Club Abuja is set to hold its Independence Tournament to mark Nigeria’s 61st Independence anniversary.

The tournament which is themed ‘Peace and Unity’ seeks to bring golfers and sports lovers together from Nigeria and other African countries.

The Club’s Vice Captain and Chairman of the planning committee, Mr Mike Ekoja during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, said, “This tournament we organised involves all members of the club; we also have guest golfers that come to participate. We will be having our golfers from Ghana who will arrive on Thursday to also take part in this tournament, the same way we go to Ghana to participate in their own tournament marking their independence anniversary.

“The tournament is peculiar to us in a way, such that because of the advent of COVID-19, last year we couldn’t hold the tournament and this time around we are holding it.

“It is a week-long tournament starting from the 27th of this month culminating on the 1st of October; Nigeria’s Independence Day Anniversary.

“We also have our training sessions, they will also undertake some activities as well. And this tournament, we’ll be maintaining the covid protocols for all our participants and people that are involved,” he added.

He assured that the course is in good condition which is of international standards therefore the rainy season will not stop golfers and its lovers  from enjoying the game.

According to him, “as for the number expected to participate in the tournament, altogether we are looking at about 500 participants. Then the tennis session has participants too and we are playing these over two days so on each day, the course could play about 250 golfers.”
