Niger Assembly, APC clash over commissionersa�� selection

The Niger State House of Assembly and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state are at daggers drown over the decision of the party to have a hand in the selection of commissioner presented to the legislature by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.
The House is composed of 27 lawmakers, 25 of them elected on the platform of the APC.
The trouble between the legislators and the party reared its ugly head when the party leadership requested for the removal of the Majority Leader, Alhaji Nura Garba, and his replacement with Alhaji Isah Dandodo Ibrahim.
The letter, in which the APC made the request, was signed by the state chairman, Mohammed Jibril Imam, and was read at the plenary on Tuesday.
The legislators were angered by the request of their party, describing it as “undue interference” in their affairs.
The legislators threw out the letter by the APC chairman, citing some sections of the House Standing Rules which prescribed that the principal officers of the Assembly should be elected by the lawmakers.
APC leaders led by the partya��s Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Liman, who were at the Assembly, were disappointed by the decision.
When journalist enquired from the party executives on their presence at the Assembly, Liman said: “go and ask them anything you want to hear.”
The governor in a memo to the Assembly on Tuesday dropped one of the four commissioner- nominees: Mr. John Sabo Koce and replaced him with Mr. Duza Emmanuel Babur.
The governor represented the list containing Alhaji Danjuma Salau from Munya Council, Isah Kanko, Wushishi LG and Kabiru Abbas Musa Mariga to the Assembly for consideration.
