Presidency: Nigerians need a better alternative – IBB

By Samuel Ogidan
Former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), has asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to offer Nigerians a better alternative for the Presidency in the 2019 election.
He praised the leadership of the PDP for embarking on rebranding of the party.
Babangida welcomed the position of the party not to impose any candidate on the people and to conduct open and transparent primary elections across the country.
The former Nigerian leader spoke in Minna, Niger State at the weekend when he received members of PDP National Working Committee (NWC) led by the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.
In a statement issued by PDP spokesman, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, Babangida was quoted as saying: a?I am happy at your assurances that there will be no imposition in all your primary elections. It is all about choice and you have promised to provide the best choice.
a?Your a?reposition, rebrand and regaina agenda is working and I mean particularly the rebranding. Some people believed that having been in government since 1999, the PDP will find opposition difficult, but you are carrying on well and providing a better alternative.
a?You have also not abandoned the people in times of crisis. I monitored your activities in Benue, and Taraba States, and you just said your party has sent members to Zamfara State to commiserate with the people. Surely, you have made the people the centre of your return and they will not forget you because you were with them in time of sorrow,a? he said.
Earlier, Secondus told Babangida that former leaders of the country must rally together to save the nation from the current administration, lamenting the killings and economic hardships, which the people have to contend with on daily basis
