Death toll in Plateau attacks hit 28, 2, 000 displaced

The death toll from the recent attacks in Josho of Daffo District in Bokkos Local Government Area and Nzharuvo community of Bassa Local Government Area has risen to 28.
The killings started on Thursday night where five persons lost their lives and several others injured.
But On Sunday, more deaths were confirmed bringing the casualty level to 28 and 2, 000 others displaced.
The spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, ASP Mathias Tyopev Terna, who confirmed the killing in Bassa council, said that “the deceased persons were identified as ;Emmanuel Joseph, 16 years, Christopher Joseph, 16 years, Peace Joseph six years, Henry Audu 25 years, and Samuel Isah 48 years”.
The AUTHORITY gathered that of the 23 corpses recovered between Friday and Saturday, many of them were burnt.
Another source said that “there was a mass burial of 18 people last Friday and another burial yesterday (Saturday) though a lesser number.
Also, the Management Committee Chairman of Bokkos council, Simon Angyol and a renowned cleric in the area said that the death toll as at on Sunday was 16.
Another cleric in Daffo however gave a different figure from five villages.
He said, “17 confirmed dead and the villages destroyed are Nghakudung, Morok, Hottom, Wareng and Ganda”.
Sources in Daffo said that search is still ongoing for more corpses, as many residents were still missing.
“Over 2,000 people have been displaced in the attacks,” he said.
Angered by the situation, the Plateau State government has vowed to do everything possible to track down the “criminals.”
Mr. Yakubu Dati, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, said that, “the governor has commiserated with the people of Bokkos over the dastardly act carried out by criminal elements as far as we are concerned.
Dating said: “Anyone who doesn’t respect human lives is a criminal.a�?
