The Cultural Consultant , Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN) , Meeyoun Jee has given insights on why Nigerians are craving to study their language .
She made the revelation last week during the Korean Language Class Graduation in Abuja .
“Why some Nigerians like to watch Korean movies and some want to go to Korea to study . Many Korean language students are studying in Korean universities . Also we have some Korean Scholarship. That is why some of them want to learn Korean . They want to listen to Korean K-Pop very well. So, all these are reasons why some of them are studying the language.”
She said the Centre wants to extend the hand of fellowship to Nigeria universities to benefit from the opportunities that abound their in adding that some have through their proficiency in the language gained employment from Korean companies.
“We are trying to establish Korean culture Centre in the universities in Nigeria . We have Korean Model school already and by next year we want to introduce Korean language study in the school. There some of the students that have gotten job in Korean companies . I know one of my student here who got job in Korean cosmetic company . Some Korean citizens here sometime ask me to find some one from among the student that they want to employ. ”
One of the best student graduate from Korean Beginner Class 1B , Nneamaka Lydia Agwu said she gained deep understanding of the language after she enrolled in the class .
She said thanked the Korean Centre for the opportunity when she said opened a door for her.
“It has always been hard since I have been studying by myself then but I decided to come to the Centre where they are doing the language. They are doing well and I try to do all the assignments they are giving us . It is a good place for me to learn. I want to go to Korean after studying their language. Am really grateful for them because with this language study my knowledge about Korean has increased . If you learn two languages it opens the door for you for the rest of your life . Learning Korean language is very easy even the alphabet .”
Also another student , Jesuloba Theophilus expressed joy for learning the language.
“It is very nice learning the language and I was able to overcome the hurdle of over 4 years. At least I can read and write now . The Korean language has benefited me now. I intend going to Korean very soon . At least to a certain level I should be able to communicate. Actually, am a pastor . I want to thank Korean a very big thank you for their good job here .”
