Armed men kidnap FMC Yola doctor, demand N10m

Kidnapers have raided the home of a medical doctor in Lakare, a community in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, and taken the doctor away.
Sources said the men abducted Dr Abdurrahman Muhammad Kawuyo of the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, in the early hours of Sunday.

According to Dr. Tounde Elijah, the Adamawa State Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), “The bandits came in the early hours of the night and picked Dr. Kawuyo from his house.”

He said he was told that one of “our colleagues who was not aware of the kidnapping, called to have some professional information from Dr. Kawuyo,” but that the call was picked by a strange person who passed it over to the doctor.

“That’s how we got the firsthand information about the incident,” the NMA chairman said, adding, “The Kidnappers are demanding N10 million for Dr. Kawuyo to regain his freedom, but negotiation is on-going.”

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of Adamawa State, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, said it happened at 4 am.

“Lakare is a new and sparsely populated community and we understand that the medical doctor packed into his house only recently,” Nguroje said.

He added that the incident was reported around 9 am on Sunday and that men and officials of the state Police Command had been despatched to find the kidnappers and get the doctor released.
