KEDCO set to replace faulty facilities, warns against extortion of customers

The management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), has reiterated its commitment to fix and replace faulty transformers, electrical equipment, warning customers against contributing money for such purposes.

According to a statement by KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Ibrahim Sani Shawai, the Company frowned at the criminal activities of unscrupulous community leaders who extort money from unsuspecting customers who they coax into contributing money for replacement of faulty KEDCO facilities.

The statement made available to journalists in Kano on Monday noted that, “Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has advised its numerous customers to desist from contributing money to pay for the repairs of transformers or buy other electrical equipment.

“The management herewith states that it is the responsibility of KEDCO to fix any and all faulty transformers.

“We are up to the task and we are not and will not cede our responsibility in that regard to our customers.

“We have world class engineers who are constantly being trained to address such issues and KEDCO has overtime purchased hundreds of transformers for various communities that have lodged complaints and we are poised to strengthening such commitment, hence there is no need for individual or communal contributions to do what we know how to do best and is our job.

“We are calling on all our numerous customers to always report faulty transformamers and other electrical equipment to our various Customer Service Points for prompt action, as it has been our culture to speedily respond to such issues in view of the high regard we have for the satisfaction of our customers.

“Instead of contributing to fix or repair faulty transformers, customers should pay their bills and allow us do our jobs. It is the responsibility of KEDCO to fix all faulty equipment as it is that of customers to pay their bills promtly.

“We are by this medium, appealing to our numerous customers to support KEDCO towards ending issues of energy theft, vandalism and meter bypass, while also urging them to lay their complaints on any issues at the nearest KEDCO offices and ensure that their complaints are documented.

“The management is using this opportunity to assure our customers that all complaints lodged from now will be addressed with renewed vigor and speed.

“Hence there is no need for the customers to hoard their complaints as our technical team is always on stand-by to ensure proper actions in that regard.

“The management urge customers to report immediately any of its staff that demands gift or pay before doing their jobs or trying to extort customers for prompt disciplinary actions as KEDCO will not allow corruption or intimidation of customers within its franchise areas.

“Accordingly, customers should not also intimidate or assault staff while doing their lawful duties.”
