Adamawa Set for Zonal Elimination for team sports in Maiduguri – Director of Sports

All is now set for the zonal elimination series for team sports for the Northeast in Maiduguri ahead of the National Sports Festival bid to hold in Benin City, the Edo state capital.

Ag. Director of Sports, Adamawa state Mrs. Esther Dominic disclosed this to Authority Newspaper in her office in Yola.

She said that” our teams in all team event have been preparing in camp for sometime now and we have also attended some met and competition across the country and we are ready to face any opposition in the zone and the country “.

The Director who enumerated the achievement of Adamawa teams both at junior and senior teams t in the state said ” with the kind support the council is getting from the state government, we are going to win all the team event at the zonal level”.

Mrs. Dominic added that ” apart from the team events, our athletes are doing well in the individual events, we have sponsored some of them to competitions across the nation both in junior and senior categories and they brought glory to our state”.

” one of our junior boy, Divine Dennis won the trophy in his category in Tennis at a met in Wukari and he is now enjoying scholarship for his secondary school education”.

“Our athletes in recent times shown promises as only few months ago before the Yuletide, Philip won Gold in the senior category in Lagos, the Female Under 17 Volleyball team came 2nd in the Northeast late last year.

The players are also doing well, one of our player has qualified to play in IBB Golf competition.

Adamawa Basketball teams both male and female are now playing in the National Basketball League, the girls are 9th in Zenith National Basketball while the boys came 8th in the recently concluded Total Championship in the country out of 74 teams that took part.

The Adamawa state Sports council which have been having serious challenge in putting up good performance in all most all sporting event in the past few years has again come to life following support from the state government.

Our investigation revealed that most Adamawa state indigenes who left for other state due to lack of motivations from the state government are now coming back to help the state win laurels again.

The last sporting outing by the state was a flop.
