Anxiety, Tension Hits Benue Over Delayed S/Court Judgement

From Austine Tule, Makurdi

An intensed atmosphere currrently pavedes Makurdi, the Benue state capital and other major towns in the state following series of postpondment by the Supreme Court to deliver judgement in the appeal brought before it by the governoship candidate of APC, Emmanuel Jime, against the declaration of Samuel Ortom of the PDP by INEC .

Not satisfied with the verdicts of the Governorship Elections Pettitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, both which validated Ortom’s victory, Jime approached the apex Court urging it to set aside the two judgements and declare him winner of the elections.

The case which was scheduled for judgement Monday ,13th January 2020 was postponed to Tuesday, 14th January 2020 for judgement.

The matter was on Tuesday again postponed indefinately by the Supreme Court, sparking off a chain of reactions.

Okada riders, market women and other interest groups in Makurdi were noticed in clusters discussing the development even as they differed in their submissions.

A cross section of those who spoke to The AUTHORITY were also not unanimous in their judgements.

Terkar Avalumun, a chieftain of the PDP suspected a planned foul play. He accussed the APC led Federal Government of an attempt to hood- wink the Supreme Court into doing it’s biddings.

“It is very clear now that having not been able to prove its case, the APC is now ploting to coarse the Supreme Court into doing it’s bidding and this must not be allowed to happen.

” Ortom was unanimously elected by Benue people as affirmed by the Tribunal and the Appeal Court ”

On his part, Chief Jef Orterga, a chieftain of the APC expressed optimism that justice was surely going to be visited to his party.

He dismissed insinuations that the delay was been ochestrated by the APC for uterior motives.

Though there were no issues of security breaches at the time of filling this report, tension had continued to mount in the state, this medium observed.
