Kano taskforce intercepts 145 carton of expired, illicit drugs worth over N150m

Kano state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa on Thursday disclosed that the Joint State Taskforce on Fake and Counterfeit Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods, Miscellaneous Committee and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), intercepted 145 cartons of expired and illicit drugs stored in a warehouse on Niger Street in Fagge Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, thr operation was as a result of a rip-off that expired assorted drugs were stored in the warehouse.

The Commissioner who spoke through the Director, Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry who doubles as the chairman Taskforce, Pharmacist Abdu Umar Madaki, further explained that the drugs include Vitamin drugs, Multivitamin and Diabetes drugs and others which is been estimated to cost about N150 million.

He said the Committee will continue to collaborate with all the relevant stakeholders in the state in order to combat the menace of fake and illicit drugs in the state.

He pointed out that already the Committee has successfully identified the owner, adding that legal action has been instituted against him.

He, therefore, enjoined the public to join in the war against sell and distribution of expired and illicit drugs so as to save lives.
