Senate shuts down legislative activities to mourn Late Longjan

The Senate on Tuesday adjourned legislative activities to mourn the sudden death of one of its members, Senator Ignatius Longjan who until his demise represented the people of Plateau South Senatorial District.

He died on Sunday, February 10,2020 after protracted illness.

This is even as the deputy President of the Senate, Senator Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who presided over the brief plenary on Tuesday announced that the upper chamber would devote the whole of Wednesday plenary to a valedictory session in honour of late Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, who represented Imo North Senatorial District, but died in December last year.

Announcing the demise of Senator Ignatius Longjan, leader of the Senate, Senator Abdullahi Yahaya Abubakar ( Kebbi North)who came under Order 43 of Senate rule while lamenting the death of Longjan said he was a politician who contributed so much to the development of Plateau state in particular and the nation in general.

“Senator Longjan who we pray should rest in the bosom of the lord died on 10th of February 2020.

“We also recall that he was a one time deputy governor of Plateau state which is a no mean achievement.Mr president, it is our convention that the Senate observes a minute silence and adjourn plenary till Wednesday February 12,200 in honour of our colleague Ignatius Longjan,” he said.

In his remark, the deputy Senate President, Omo-Agege, said,”our hearts are very very heavy today, this is one death too many just as we have been grieving the loss of another of our dear friend and bosom colleague, Benjamin Uwajumogu who left us about two months ago, today it is another.

“It is very painful, he was a fine gentleman, a man who rendered selfless service to his state as deputy governor and to his Senatorial district as Senator representing Plateau South.

“On behalf of the Senate we extend our condoles to his family and the government of plateau state.”
