Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe representing Abia South senatorial zone; former governor of Anambra State and the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP at the 2019 poll, Mr. Peter Obi; and the former National President of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Senator Umeh , Friday, stormed Umuahia the Abia State capital for the burial ceremony of the late parents of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu’s parents, HRM Eze Israel Kanu, and Lolo Sally Kanu, died late last year and had been slated for burial February 14 at their Isiama Afaraukwu Umuahia country home.

Present also at the church service of the late monarch and his wife which held at Anglican Church Afaraukwu were Senator Chris Adighije, former Nigeria Ambassador to Brazil, Chief Empire Kanu ; former Speaker, Abia House of Assembly and member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, Rt. Hon Stanley Ohajuruka; and Chief Tony Ukasanya.

Meanwhile, Senator Ume while speaking with newsmen said he was “prepared for the worst.”

Chief Umeh said he came to identify with the bereaved family as demanded by the Igbo tradition “because it takes the living to bury the dead “.

Umeh who noted that his presence at the event was to commiserate with the family, said he was not bothered about whatever consequences that could follow.

He said the late Eze Israel Kanu, and his wife, Lolo Sally Kanu lived a life of legacy and deserved a befitting burial and final respect.

He prayed God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the “double loss “.

The APGA boss expressed joy at the peaceful atmosphere that pervaded the ceremony contrary to reports of tension and frenzy in town.

He described as unnecessary the altercations and war of words between the police and IPOB which he noted, scared some people from showing up at the burial.

The arrival of the remains of the late monarch and his wife was still being awaited at the church as at the time of filing this report.
