Barely 24 hours to his inuaguration the Supreme Court has sacked Mr. David Lyon as Governor-Elect of Bayelsa State.

In his place, the court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to immediately provide Certificate of Return to the candidate with the next highest votes and spread at the governorship election in the state, Sen. Duoye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Lyon was already taking part in dry rehearsal proceedings his swearing-in scheduled for tomorrow when the sad news of the nullification of his election reached him and he abandoned the rehearsals and ran to his residence.

A five man panel of the Supreme Court presided over by Justice Mary Peter-Odili, nullified the election on the ground that his deputy, Sen. Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, presented false information to INEC in aid of his qualification for the November 16 governorship election in the state.

The apex court in the judgment delivered by Justice Ejembi Eko consequently ordered the INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Lyon and Degi-Eremienyo.

Justice Eko equally ordered INEC to immediately declare the party with the highest number of lawful votes and geographical spread winner of the election.

With the judgment, candidate of the PDP, Sen. Diri will now be inuagurated as governor of Bayelsa State tomorrow, Saturday
