Nasarawa appoints new head for state’s Poly, CoE

From Francis Nansak, Lafia

Some principal officers of tertiary schools owned by the Nasarawa State government have been relieved of their duties by the visitor to the schools, Governor Abdullahi Sule.

The sack, which many believe is long overdue, is not unconnected to alleged financial misappropriation and maladministration.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Tijani, also announced immediate replacements for the affected persons.

The statement read in parts: ” Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has approved the suspension of the governing council of the College of Education Akwanga, pending the outcome of the report of an investigative committee on the activities of the institution.

“The Governor equally directed the provost of the college, bursar, as well as the desk officer in-charge of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to proceed on compulsory leave with immediate effect, until further notice.”

The governor subsequently approved the appointment of Dr. Roseline Kala as interim administrator of the institution.

Engr. Sule also approved the appointment of Mrs Jiriko Ruth as the acting Rector of Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia.

According to the statement, the appointment is with immediate effect and is for a period of six months.

The AUTHORITY reports that the immediate past administration in the state had set up a probe panel over alleged misappropriation and maladministration that led to the dismissal of the former polytechnic rector, along with others. The panel was chaired by the present Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Fatu Sabo Jemita.
