Kano High Court strikes out case against creation of new emirates

From Maduabuchi Nmeribeh, Kano

Opposition to the creation of four emirates in Kano suffered a serious setback as a Kano State High Court presided by Justice A. T. Badamasi on Monday struck out the suit filed by Kano kingmakers to challenge the Kano Emirate Council Law 2019.

Delivering his verdict on the case, Justice Badamasi said that the subject matter of the suit has already been overtaken by event, the law having been nullified by another high court in the state.

He further maintained that, since the law has been nullified, there is no basis continuing the case, as it will only amount to academic exercise and hence a waste of time.

The AUTHORITY recalls that Justice U. M. Na-Abba had earlier ruled that the Kano Emirate Council Law, 2019 was not properly promulgated.

However, following Justice Na-Abba’s judgment, the state House of Assembly reconvened and eventually passed a new law, which gave legal backing to the creation of the new emirates.
