Ganduje Releases N100m for Kano scholars studying in France

Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has approved the immediate release of N100 million to carter for tuition fees and other financial needs of lecturers drawn from different higher institutions in the state furthering their education in France universities.

According to a Statement by Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, the gesture was in fulfillment of the Kano state side for the Kano/France Joint Scholarship Programme 2019/2020 academic session.

The Statement indicated that, “Ganduje has approved the release and disbursement of the sum of One Hundred Million Naira (N100m) to France universities where Kano students undergoing Masters and Doctoral Degrees.”

The AUTHORITY recalls that Kano state government and French Embassy in Nigeria entered agreement, named “Kano/France Joint Scholarship Programme, where lecturers from tertiary institutions in the state are sent to further their studies to Masters and PhD programmes.

Some of them continued with Doctorate Degrees after completing their Masters Degrees.

The lecturers were drawn from state-owned universities and other institutions of higher learning in the state, such as University of Science and Technology, Wudil (KUST), Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano State Polytechnic, among others.

The Statement added that, “in line with the framework of the Contractual Agreement between the state government and French government, it is stipulated that, the public institution CAMPUS France, specifically in Article 6.3 that, ‘Payment of cash advance by the Partner, …the due payment for the academic year 2019-2020 (is definite) in order to ensure the Scholarships management of 9 PhD students (7 recurrent and 2 new) for the period of 1st of September 2019 to 31st of August 2020.

“Governor Ganduje, as show of commitment and seriousness, approves the release and disbursement of the total sum of One Hundred Million Naira (N100m), for the payment of those fees, ensuring that “The state government would not relent in her effort to make sure that our students undergo their studies undisturbed.

“While assuring that, the state government would always respect the agreement reached under this programme, he also called on the beneficiaries to remain focused and dedicated in their endeavours so as to have value for the resources spend, for the development of the state education system. Especially when they are back home.

“Some of the French institutions that, Kano students run their programmes are University of Lyon, Ecole Central Nantes, University of Bourgogne, Nice Sophia Antipolis, EPITA Paris, University of Paris Sud, University of Paris Sacley among others.

“The Coordinator of the Programme Dr Hussaini Akilu Jarma FCAI, who is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Higher Education, assured that, the Kano state governor has been up and doing in making sure that the programme continue unhindered.”
