Book launch: Cleric seeks end to materialistic lifestyle

A Muslim Cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Sadiq Umar, has called on leaders in the country and other Nigerians to do away with materialistic lifestyle which has continued to impoverish the poor, in order to avert God’s anger .

Umar made this call during the launch of his book, ‘Countenance of Allah’, at the Tariqatul Tijaniyya Jummat Mosque, Old Kutunku, Gwagwalada, Abuja.

His words: “Various parts of the world are experiencing increasing levels of unrest for denying God’s participation in the affairs of their nation, even as Nigeria’s situation is worrisome, as it has come under multiple securities related challenges over time.

“Nigeria since 2009 has been deep-neck with the persistent threat of Boko Haram, militia, kidnappers, ritual killings, herders-farmers clash, cattle rustling and lately, Lassa fever claiming victims across the nation”.

While saying there is urgent need for political leadership of the country to re-assess the present lifestyle, passion for greed, materialism, ethnicity and distaste for patriotism, the respected cleric, who was once a Christian seminarian and altar boy before his conversion to Islam, said it is only the fear of God that can see to the nation averting additional inflictions.

He admonished Muslims to always promote unity and carry out generous acts to both Muslims and non Muslims.
