Benue Assembly Orders AG To Authenticate BPPC Staff

From Austine Tule, Makurdi

The Benue Assembly on Tuesday directed the State Accountant-General’s (AG) Office to issue Personal Subhead Numbers to the staff of the Benue Printing and Publishing Company (BPPC).

The house arrived at the decision while debating the report of its Committee on Information and Orientation during plenary in Makurdi.

Leading the debate, the Chairman of the committee, Mr Tertsea Gbiseh informed the house that the staff of the company were not issued personal subhead numbers since 1992.

Gbiseh further said that as a result of that even their salary go to them in lump sum before that share according to their levels.

The chairman added that retirees of the company find it difficult to access their pension benefits after retirement due to non possession of subhead numbers by the retirees.

In his contribution, Mr William Ortyom, urged the AG office to regularize the process of the subhead number to enable the staff enjoy their pension benefits after exiting service.

Ruling, the Speaker, Mr Titus aq, said that the staff of the company be giving subhead numbers in order to boost their morale and spur them to put in maximally in performance of their duty.

“This will also enable them to access their pension entitlement upon retirement,” he said.

He further said that the house directed the governor of the state to approve the Directorate structural system for BPPC to be at par with their sister corporation in the state and other states like Kano and Taraba.

“This will address the problem of prolonged stagnation suffered by the staff,” he said.
