LENT: Reflect and pray against insecurity, Dr. Okwenna tells Ndi Anambra

Christians has been called upon to use the 40days Lenten period to seek Gods intervention on the myraids of problems that have bedeviled the country especially.

A foremost Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr Ifedi Okwenna, in his Lenten Message on Wednesday told Ndi Anambra that the Lenten period calls for sober reflection on the challenges affecting the country especially insecurity, banditry and all forms of vices.

He said, “Today is Ash Wednesday, an important day in Christiandom. It marks the beginning of lent and falls six and a half weeks before the commemoration of Christ passion, death and resurrection, prior to his glorious ascension.

“The Lenten period is one for reflection and repentance of sins and those who observe it are expected to seek reconciliation with God. It is a period of fasting, prayers and arms giving.

“It is also a period where many choose to give up in indulgence as a representation of the temptation of Christ as he fasted for 40 days and nights”.

The Anambra state PDP Governorship Aspirant called on them to see the period as a time for sober reflection and prayers for the state and Nigeria at large. He requested that they commit themselves to prayers for God’s protection especially with the increasing insecurity in the country.

The Ugwumba Osumenyi stressed that Ndi Anambra should abstain from habits that will divide the state but rather work and improve on what will strengthen and deepen democracy.

He also extended his gratitude to the church clerics, Priests and Religious for propagating the gospel of Christ on earth.
