Supreme Court under pressure not to reverse Imo Judgement – PDP

…Hails verdict on Bayelsa

…Be magnanimous in victory, Dr. Okwenna tells Sen. Diri

By Myke Uzendu, Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said that it has uncovered pressure mounted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against reversing what they described as human error in the Supreme Court judgement on Imo State.

The party further hailed the Supreme Court for remaining resolute on the Bayelsa judgement but maintained that the obvious mistakes on the Imo judgement, is now threatening the stability of the nation.

According to a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan on Wednesday, the party noted that the elements and grounds for the demands by majority of Nigerians for the reversal of Imo state governorship election judgment are completely different from those of Bayelsa.

The PDP explained that its demand on Imo is not in any way in contestation of the authority and finality of the Supreme Court but a patriotic effort to assist the Supreme Court affirm its infallibility by correcting the inherent mistakes in the judgment which came as a result of misleading presentation to it by the APC.

“It is therefore instructive to note that the various election matters before the Supreme Court were brought on clearly distinctive grounds and each should be treated on its merit before the law” he said.

The party said the only reason APC was pushing for a review of the Supreme Court’s valid and flawless judgment on the Bayelsa and Zamfara governorship elections was to cause confusion and blackmail the Supreme Court from treating the Imo case on merit.

The party urged the Supreme Court not to succumb to the threats and blackmail by APC to push it to restrain itself from looking at the merit of the Imo case; correcting the mistakes and reversing the flawed judgment.

Meanwhile, Anambra State PDP Governorship hopeful, Dr. Ifedi Okwenna has congratulated, Bayelsa State Governor Sen. Duoye Diri on his final victory at the apex Court on Wednesday.

Dr. Okwenna in a statement, stressed that the court remains the hope of the common man and enjoined the Lord Justices to remain steadfast in delivering judgment.

He reminded them that being the final Court, they have right over life and death and therefore should put everything into considerations in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Dr. Okwenna enjoined all stakeholders in Bayelsa to join hands and work for the betterment of their state, noting that there should be no victor or vanquished rather, the victory should be dedicated for good governance in Bayelsa.

He enjoined Sen Douye Diri to be magnanimous and accommodative to all Bayelsans as his victory remains an act of God.
