UBEC, UNICEF train social mobilisation, SBMC officers on education delivery

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has partnered with the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) to train Social Mobilisation Officers and School Based Management Committee (SBMC) desk officers in the nation’s basic education sector.

The training, geared towards sharpening the skills of the relevant UBEC and State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) officials, was targeted at better education delivery across the country.

A statement made available to The AUTHORITY by UBEC in Abuja, said the training session took place from 24 to 28 February 2020 in Calabar, Cross River State.

Declaring the event open, UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, urged participants to leverage on the training to improve on the delivery of their various duties.

Represented by UBEC’s Director of Administration and Supplies, Rt. Rev. Edwin Musa Jarumai, Bobboyi, said the participants would be expected to lead and drive the various processes and activities aimed at ensuring effective collaboration between grassroots stakeholders and policy makers in basic education delivery.

According to the statement, the opening session was witnessed by high ranking UBEC officials including the UBEC Social Mobilization Director, Alhaji Bello Kagara, Zonal Director, UBEC South-South Zonal Office, Mr. Osahon Obinoba, State Coordinator, UBEC, Cross River State Office, Mr. Francis Etuk and Desk Officers responsible for Social Mobilization and SBMC activities, among others.

The AUTHORITY reports that the Social Mobilisation scheme and SBMC are major efforts aimed at institutionalizing community ownership of the structure and processes in basic education education delivery.
