Okwenna seeks support of the Anglican Church

*Promises better deal for Ndi Anambra

A front line governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at next year’s governorship election in Anambra State, Dr.Ifedi Okwenna, during a courtesy call on
the Bishop of Mbamili Diocese of the Anglican Church, Rt. Revd. Henry Okeke, promised to enthrone a better deal for Anambra state.

He expressed sadness on the total absence of infrastructure in Shambles West Local Government, especially the lack of access roads, perennial flood challenges that usually negatively impact on academics in the area, youth unemployment and the resultant youth indulgence in substance abuse.

He also expressed worry over increasing poverty which, he attributed mainly to non-evacuation of abundant agric produce from the area.

Dr. Okwenna promised the Bishop that if it pleases God to make him Governor, he will construct the major access road to the Local Government from where Peter Obi stopped, as a matter of priority and in a record time.

He also promised to rehabilitate public schools and to review the state’s school calendar so as to incorporate the peculiarities f the people of Anambra West.

The governorship hopeful promised to establish the first General Hospital in the area and to link the local government to his State-wide health coverage scheme, among many other plans he had for the area.

Responding, the Bishop Henry Okeke, commended Dr. Okwenna, for the visit and bemoaned the level of neglect of the area by successive governments despite the fact that the incumbent Governor Willie Piano is from the area.

He prayed God to bring forth a governor who will not play politics with constructing the access road to the area, stressing that the absence of good road to evacuate farm produce is responsible for growing poverty, morbidity, mortality and high reduction in life expectancy.

He encouraged Dr Okwenna to continue to work hard to earn the trust of Ndi Anambra, promising to support him in prayers as he criss-cross the entire state.

In appreciation, the PDP Chairman in Anambra West Local Government, Chief Samuel Ozoekwe, who accompanied Dr. Okwenna during the trip, appreciated the Bishop for his fatherly advise, support and prayers and also appreciated Dr. Okwenna for visiting the Local Government.
