Coronavirus: FCTA shuts worship centres, markets, others

The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has directed all worship centres in the territory to remain close.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Minister of the FCT, Malam Muhammad Bello said the decision was informed by the need to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

He explained that all civil servants on grade level 01-12 are to stay at home from Tuesday, 24th March, 2020 till further notice.

Bello said only those on essential duties such as water supply, fire service, security, medical services, environmental protection, emergency services.

The minister called on the residents to remain calm and monitor news channels often as updates on the FCT’s response will be broadcast and published periodically.

According to the Minister, the administration would be working with the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital to expand the capacity of the current isolation and treatment centre to accommodate more patients by providing the essential facilities .

He also said the Zuba General Hospital will be converted into an isolation and treatment centre to accommodate more patients should the need arise, with other isolation and treatment facilities are also being prepared.
