COVID-19: Enugu govt suspends social gatherings

…orders non essential civil servants to work from home.

The Enugu state government in continuation of measures to prevent the outbreak of Corona virus disease CODIV-19 in Enugu state,yesterday evening ordered the suspension of all forms of social gathering in the state including marriage and burial ceremonies.

Other social gatherings suspended include drinking bars,night clubs, masquerading and cultural festivals, recreational and group sporting activities etc.

Governor Ugwuanyi dropped the hints at state wide broadcast at the state government house to residents of te state,also odered for immediate closure of all efucational institutions in the state.

He further directed that all civil servants in the state should henceforth work from home,except those of them involved in essential duties.

He listed class of the class of essential duties workers expected to be on duty to include health workers, forest guards, neighbourhood watch personnel, water corporation staff, waste management operatives, staff of Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, Fire fighters and all those involved in essential services will continue to work.

Governor Ugwuanyi ordered commercial transport services to curtail the number of passengers in their buses,taxi cabs and tricycles per trip.

“All public transport operators in the state are to observe the following rules on passenger conveyance: “Keke- not more than two passengers, commuter buses- not more than two passengers pee seat, city cab- not more than 3 passengers” he explained.

He commended health care providers in the state for the commitment and dedication they have shown in the fight against the virus.

“All public places must observe a high level of hygiene by using sanitizers and frequent hand washing as earlier advised by the state ministry of health” he said.

Speaking further, he said the social distancing protocol as advised by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control must be observed during public religious worships as well as in restraints and eateries.

He noted that the law enforcement agencies in the State have been directed to enforce strict compliance with the above stated measures.
