The monarch of Akwanga, who is also a first class chief, Pastor Samuel Gamu Yare has ordered the arrest of a district head of Gbugyar in Akwanga local government area of Nasarawa State, Mr. Zaman Barau Mpada.

He explained that he directed the arrest of the village head due to his violation of the state government directives on social distancing.

Mr. Mpada, who is the Wakilin Gbugyar, was arrested and detained on Saturday evening on the orders of the Paramount ruler of Mada nation.

Our correspondent gathered that the Chun Mada, had advised the district head to stop the wedding for fear of the spread of COVID – 19.
But the village head went ahead by violating the social gathering order, by hosting guests to his marriage ceremony in Gbugyar, against the advice of the Chun Mada.

According to Gamu, the village head was said to have held a reception for two days in an open ground, which was attended by some number of people, from within and outside Gbugyar community.

The Chun Mada, Mr Samson Gamu Yare, told our correspondent on phone that he ordered the arrest of the district head to serve as deterrent to others.

“He went against government order and my advised, by organising a wedding and a lavish pre-wedding party for two good days with plenty people in attendance.”

“I personally reported him to the Police to arrest him to serve as deterrent to violators of the laws of the land and orders of government,” he said.
