COVID-19: JAMB seeks price review of NASENI products

By Felix Khanoba

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has called on the National Agency for Science Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to review downward the prices of its products designed to battle the dreaded coronavirus pandemic.

Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, who made the call during a meeting with top management staff of NASENI in Abuja, said the Board has already placed an order for the agency’s locally-produced disinfectant sprayers.

The Board, in its weekly bulletin made available to newsmen in Abuja by its spokesman, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said the JAMB’s boss opined that price reduction would ensure wider patronage of the NASENI products.

On measures put in place to curtail the spread of the virus, Prof. Oloyede said the entire workers at the Board’s would be sanitised before and after closing from work on a daily basis.

According to Oloyede, the Board would not compromise the safety of its staff as it has fully complied with the directive on the gradual easing of the lockdown, adding that the procurement of the equipment from NASENI would be an extra layer of protection for the staff.

He, however, advised the agency to work on the aesthetics of the machines in order to compete favourably with those produced abroad.

“NASENI Disinfectant Safety Sprayers have come handy even as we look forward to consolidating on our partnership with you and other similar organisations towards deploying more locally-produced equipment,” he said.

On his part, the Executive Vice Chairman, NASENI, Prof. Mohammad Haruna, commended the patriotism of JAMB at a period when many are fixated on foreign products.

Haruna assured Oloyede that the equipment would meet all the specifications agreed upon with the Board in terms of aesthetics, added features and durability.

Recall that NASENI had recently launched a range of technology products tagged “COVID-19 interventions” to assist the government to contain the spread of the covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

The locally-manufactured products include ventilators, NASENI Disinfectant Safety Tunnel O, Disinfectant Safety Tunnel U, the Single-Cham Disinfectant Sprayer, Keke NASENI Disinfectant Sprayer, among others.
