From Isaac Ojo, Nnewi

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, has recorded its second confirmed Covid-19 case.

This was contained in a release signed by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Prof Anthony Igwegbe.

“I wish to bring to your notice that we have recorded a second confirmed Covid-19 case.

“The patient, a photographer, resident in Akokwa, Imo State, is a known case of auto hemolytic anaemia being managed by the Haematology Unit.

“He was admitted into the Accident and Emergency (A/E) unit on May 24. He subsequently developed symptoms suggestive of Covid-19 infection.

“Samples were taken and sent to ISTH Irrua for testing. The result released today showed he tested positive to COVID -19,” the CMD said.

Prof Igwegbe said that the management of the hospital has met with all the units involved in the management of the case and instituted the appropriate measures in terms of self-isolation for the staff, and that contact tracing has since commenced.

The NAUTH CMD said the patient has been moved to the treatment center in Onitsha.

Prof Igwegbe reassured that the management will continue to take appropriate measures in protecting the members of staff of the hospital, especially, the front line staff during this pandemic.

“Please do adopt the universal standard precautions in carrying out your duties,” he stressed.
